Hospital employee arrested for embezzling drugs

MT. PLEASANT, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan pharmacist technician was arrested for embezzling prescription medication.

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department began their investigation on Angelee Wilkerson on May 31. Wilkerson, 43, worked at McLaren Central Michigan Hospital.

Another pharmacist at the facility noticed an inconsistency with the ordering and dispensing of medications while completing an audit, the city of Mt. Pleasant said.

The discovery prompted a detailed audit, which revealed an employee had been embezzling drugs for years.

The theft was reported to police and the investigation led to Wilkerson, of Weidman.

Wilkerson admitted to stealing the drugs from the hospital over the past few years, the city said.

She was arrested and charged with embezzlement-agent ortrustee $1,000 or more, but less than $20,000; controlled substance - delivery/manufacture; and controlled substance - possession.analogues.

Wilkerson was arraigned on June 14 and has since posted bond.
