ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -

Tuition for in-state, undergraduate students at the University of Michigan will go up by 3.9 percent in the fall.

Regents approved the hike Thursday in Ann Arbor by a 5-3 vote as part of the school's budget. The school says the increase is below the state's 4.2 percent cap.

Tuition and fees for first-year, in-state undergraduates in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts will be $14,402, an increase of $546.

Tuition will go up 4.4 percent for out-of-state students, while students in most graduate and professional programs will pay 3.9 percent more.

Regents also voted to increase undergraduate financial aid by 10.8 percent.

Tuition and fees for undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Michigan-Flint will go up by 4.1 percent.
