New Mid-Michigan bar offers unique hang out

Posted: Updated:

One of the newest places in Mid-Michigan where you can enjoy craft beers opened on Friday.

The Larkin Beer Garden in Midland that is unlike any other bar in town. The walk-up bar is a converted shipping container.

Chelsea Rowley works with the Michigan Baseball Foundation, partner in the Beer Garden and is hoping to add momentum to Midland.

“This is a concept that is popping up all over the nation really. It's the idea of taking containers or infrastructures that already exists and refurbishing it,” Rowley said.

The mobile beer garden will be parked on Larkin Street through September.

“We’re open on Thursdays and Fridays and we have a beer selection that rotates weekly,” Rowley said.

The Larkin Beer Garden is a family spot with something for everyone to enjoy, whether it’s eating at picnic tables or playing yard games like large-sized version of Jenga and Connect Four.

“I think it’s awesome! Midland needs this. This is great,” said Patti LaChance.

Event organizers said that’s exactly the reaction they’re hoping for.

“The whole point of this is to get more people on the streets of our downtown, and to realize what a great downtown Midland already has,” Rowley said.

“We need a place to go out in the summer. There’s so few outdoor eateries or places where you just hang with your friends and have a cold beer. You don’t even have to have a beer. Just to hang outside where there’s a group of people. This is so cool! So need,” LaChance said.

The Larkin Beer Garden will be open until Labor Day in September and is open to guests of all ages.
