TRAVERSE CITY, MI (AP) -

Police say family members cleaning the home of a deceased man in Traverse City found what's believed to be an active World War II-era mortar shell.

Traverse City police Capt. Kevin Dunklow tells the Traverse City Record-Eagle that the shell was found Saturday and the Michigan State Police bomb squad was called to help dispose of the mortar.

No injuries were reported.

Dunklow says the old explosive is "still active, but it's not a danger to anyone." State police went to the home on Monday morning to remove the mortar.
