Faith group hosts Mid-Michigan AIDS testing

Posted: Updated:
FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A faith-based group is leading the drive to get people tested for AIDS. From Thursday, June 23 until Saturday June 25, the Walgreens at 502 South Ballenger Hwy. in Flint is where anyone can go for the quick and confidential blood test. Results are provided immediately.

Gospel Against AIDS, Second Chance Church and Greater Than Aids have teamed up with the drugstore chain to host the free event.

The Kaiser Family Foundation reports 43 percent of Americans have never been tested for HIV/AIDS. 37 percent say they have not been tested in a year or longer.

In Michigan, over 18,700 individuals are said to be infected with HIV/AIDS. Most, according to the Foundation, don't even know they're infected.

The hours for this week's free HIV/AIDS testing are:

  • Thursday, June 23 from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Friday, June 24 from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 25 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
