CARROLLTON, MI (WNEM) -

A son is worried his parent's mounting home repairs are making his father's health worse.

Ernie Ramon loves to play the guitar, but it's not just a hobby. It actually helps combat his dementia.

His wife Minnie gets his medicine ready, but it's not just his health she worries about.

"I am afraid the blocks will cave in and give out and that will make it worse," she said.

There are major cracks in the foundation of their home and damage everywhere you look. Gilbert Ramon, the couple's son, said his parents can't use their basement.

"A lot of mold around the base. That's why there is a lot of mold and mildew down there," Gilbert Ramon said.

He said he's worried the mold will affect his parent's health.

Gilbert Ramon said his parents had the basement repaired in the past, but after a lot of money was spent the contractors were gone and the problem was still there. That's when they decided to call the TV5 Rescue Squad.

Gilbert Ramon's wife Mary said she hopes all of the good deeds her parents-in-law have done will give them good karma.

"She's really caring about the neighbors and the people around her. At the church she has been there for years, her and my father-in-law. They have helped, unbelievably helped," Mary Ramon said.

The Ramons said the repairs could cost them as much as $5,000 and that is just something they can't afford right now.

Gilbert Ramon said his parents want to get into an assisted living home, but because they are on a fixed income and his mom is left to take care of her disabled husband they can't afford that until they sell their home.

"They love people and they have done a lot and they are old in age and they just need help," Mary Ramon said.

Minnie Ramon said if someone could help it would mean the world to them.

"It would be a miracle. It would really help a lot. I have been praying that someone will do this," she said.
