Sometimes it takes years for an author's book to be published, but one Mid-Michigan teenager is ahead of the curve.

Not only is she the envy of every aspiring writer, but the obstacles she has overcome to be a published author make her real life as interesting as the fiction she created.

"It's such an amazing feeling and it's like I'm on cloud nine," said Bailey Ziehmer, author.

She has done something not many people have done. The 18-year-old recently graduated from Hemlock High School and she is already a published author. Her book is about vampires.

"Because I've always loved supernatural things and vampires have always just caught my eye," Ziehmer said.

One of the main characters in the book is named Bailey. She has to go through obstacles in the book to stay with her love interest. It's similar to the obstacles Ziehmer has had in real life.

Ziehmer was a special needs student and school wasn't easy for her.

"People have told me for most of my life that I couldn't do something," Ziehmer said.

However, she did it and she made her grandparents proud. Ziehmer has lived with them ever since she was a little girl.

"She's a great girl and she done a good job and I tell you what, I'm behind her 100 percent and I always will be," said Jack Schmidt, grandfather.

The superintendent of Hemlock schools, Don Killingbeck, is also amazed at what Ziehmer has accomplished.

"The sheer determination is just so impressive and it's awe-inspiring. It makes you want to go out and buy the book and it also makes you want to live by her example," Killingbeck said.

Ziehmer said she will never forget the first time she saw her name on a book that was published.

"I actually got my first copy on my grandparent's birthday. So to see my name on their birthday just made it 10 times better," Ziehmer said.
