Poll: Majority of Americans continue to support same-sex marriage

Posted: Updated:

As they have for more than three years, a majority of Americans say same-sex marriage should be legal.

According to a CBS News poll, 58 percent of Americans support the legalization of same-sex marriage a year after the Supreme Court ruling, while 33 percent are opposed.

Americans in nearly every age group believe marriage between same-sex couples should be legal, except for those ages 65 and over who are split on the issue, according to the poll.

Meanwhile, 77 percent of Americans under the age of 30 are especially supportive.

In July of 2012, the public was divided on the issue, with 46 percent favoring and 44 percent opposed.
