A Mid-Michigan bridge is expected to open ahead of schedule.

The City of Fenton will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, June 24 to celebrate the opening of Silver Lake Road Bridge.

The city received a bridge grant from the state of Michigan for $900,000 to cover most of the cost of the construction. In total, the bridge cost $1.25 million.

The city picked up the remaining cost.

The project began on January 25 and took 125 days to complete.

The old bridge was removed and an aluminum culvert bridge with new headwalls was installed. Crews had to reconstruct the street, a new water main underneath the bridge and relocate the sanitary sewer.

New sidewalks were also added.
