Business destroyed by tornado reopens

MILLINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

One year after a massive storm of tornadoes ripped through parts of Mid-Michigan, businesses are finally starting to get back on their feet.

Celebrating the grand opening of Diamond C Saddlery is a day of new beginnings, Ray Cayer said.

Last June, the business was destroyed by a tornado.

“It was devastating...just about as devastating as you can get,” Cayer said. “Store away, tore up the house, blew my horse barn away, my work shop away. My house, totaled one truck, banged up two more. Yea it hit me pretty hard.”

The saddlery was open for 42 years when the tornado left the business in shambles but Cayer said he wasn't going to give up.

“Yea we just go on, ya know. It was a little rough for a year. Getting everything up and going,” he said.

Cayer said the store is better than ever and the shelves are packed.

Brett Taylor said everyone is happy to celebrate the grand opening.

“It is so exciting. I'm so happy about it. We have lots of people come in, it’s just such a good time,” Taylor said.

The saddlery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store has everything from boots to hats and of course saddles.
