DETROIT (AP) -

DTE Energy Co. is unveiling plans for a new public park, restaurant and community space in downtown Detroit.

A groundbreaking is Tuesday on the western edge of Detroit's central business district. The park is scheduled for completion in 2017.

The 1.5-acre park will be across the street from the Detroit-based utility's headquarters. DTE's Chairman and CEO says in a statement the utility will "transform this piece of land into a magnificent public green space that will benefit the city and its people for generations to come."

DTE says the park is part of a broader effort to improve Detroit's downtown and will help link the area to The District Detroit, which includes the new Red Wings' arena that's under construction and other entertainment venues and housing developments.
