Deadline reached for removal of lead pipelines

Posted: Updated:

Thursday is the new deadline for bids on Flint’s lead pipeline removal.

City officials met with contractors Wednesday to discuss their proposals to replace the city’s lead service lines.

The meeting came after Mayor Karen Weaver said the bids were much higher than expected.

The EPA had estimated the project would cost approximately $4,000 per home but we’re told the lowest bid came in at about $6,500 per home.

Contractors were asked to submit their “best and final” bids Thursday.
