MERRILL, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan home that was for sale was destroyed by fire just after a purchase agreement was inked.

Firefighters were called to 3290 S. Merrill Road in Merrill on June 30.

A witness told TV5 that a couple and their dog were able to escape the flames, and now Joe Karpuk, a Realtor with Re/Max New Image said it was the couple that had just signed an offer to sell the home.

Karpuk said the home had been on the market for more than a month, and was listed at for $264,900.

And while the homeowners had accepted an offer, the deal wasn’t closed.

It’s not clear what sparked the flames.
