BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

The Fourth of July is a day to celebrate America's independence from the tyranny of monarchs, taxation without representation and the power to self govern.

The holiday is usually celebrated with fireworks and with large crowds expected at every fireworks show around Mid-Michigan law enforcement is cranking up safety precautions.

Police and security will be in the crowds to make sure everyone stays safe. They're also calling on visitors to do their part.

"The Bay City Fireworks Committee has hired private security that will be down in the park. There's no alcohol or fireworks allowed in the park of any kind. We'll be checking coolers in vehicles before we enter the park," said Capt. Mark Turner, with the Bay City Department of Public Safety.

Michigan State Police are asking visitors to be vigilant in light of the terrorist attacks in Orlando and Turkey. They remind people if they see something to say something.

"Officers from our department will be in the park all three days and we'll also have assistance from the Bay County Sheriff's Department and the Michigan State Police," Turner said.
