BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

The Fourth of July celebrations are underway in Bay City.

"They're fantastic. We've been coming for years. We sit in the middle of the river on our boat and have a wonderful time," said Mary Heitman, Bay City resident.

Current day traditions are built around the three day festival.

Heitman said the shows are a part of the fabric of her family.

"Family, family, totally. My grandchildren, my children, and my husband and I, we've been doing it for years. It's beautiful," she said.

It's the same for others as they reflect on the national holiday.

"I think it's a great celebration of the Fourth of July and a tribute to all the people that have served in the armed forces and the freedom we all enjoy," said Rick Shepard, Bay City resident.

Thousands of people pack the shores of the Saginaw River over the three days to enjoy the fireworks display.

Rick Revette owns two restaurants in the city and said business is good.

"There's a lot of people coming down and having a great time and enjoying our wonderful city," Revette said.
