BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

The annual Fireworks Festival in Bay City fired off Thursday night, but organizers say the grand finale will be spectacular.

The festival kicked off on the banks of the Saginaw River.

Bay City’s fireworks show consistently gets the title of one of the best around. Organizers say they use Thursday and Friday night as a preview for what’s in store on Saturday night.

There’s also a carnival going on in Veteran’s Memorial Park, live music in Wenona Park and even more fun for the family.

Thursday night, people were leaving happy with day one of the festival.

"I liked it, I enjoyed it. And this is my favorite time of the year. I enjoyed the first night and I'm looking forward to the other ones,” said Kaycee Cruz, who watched the fireworks.

"We're from Detroit, so this is amazing for us, it was great, it was awesome,” said Danielle Neal and Rejean Wilson, who also watched the fireworks.

The festival continues Friday with the carnival opening at noon and live music starting at 5:30 p.m. Another fireworks show begins around 10 p.m.

The big day is Saturday, when organizers will fire off a 37-minute show synchronized to music.

One thousand shells go off every minute.
