PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -

A former Detroit Lions cornerback who was shot by a homeowner when authorities say he tried to break in to a multimillion-dollar home in Portland said at a court hearing that he was happy to be alive.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that Stanley Wilson II was arraigned Thursday on burglary and trespassing charges.

Authorities say Wilson was found naked and wounded in a water fountain in a backyard June 22. The homeowner had shot him in the abdomen.

Oregon law allows a person to use deadly physical force against someone trying to burglarize their home. Prosecutors will determine if the shooting was justified.

Wilson posted bail this week and was ordered to stay away from the neighborhood. His next court appearance was set for July 15.
