Flint-area jail will stick with bottled water for inmates

FLINT, MI (AP) -
Inmates at a Flint jail will continue to drink bottled water until tests show tap water meets federal standards. The Genesee County sheriff on Tuesday agreed to keep the jail stocked with bottled water. The Flint Journal says inmates have had access since January. For 18 months until last fall, Flint pulled water from the Flint River without treating it for corrosion. As a result, lead leached from old pipes and fixtures. The problem isn't over, although government experts say filtered tap water is safe for everyone to drink in Flint. The agreement at the jail is in response to a lawsuit filed on behalf of inmates.
