HOUGHTON LAKE, MI (WNEM) -

Michigan State Police are investigating an airplane crash at the Houghton Lake Airport on Saturday, July 2.

Police say a 66 year old man from Grayling was flying a single engine plane when he hit a fence at the south end of the airport.

After hitting the fence, the front wheel of  the plane was bent backwards into the body of the aircraft causing it to skid on the nose of the plane.

The  pilot suffered minor injuries and says when he began his approach he was caught by a down draft.

Three other people were passengers in the plane. A man and a young boy had minor injuries, and another young girl was not hurt.

The FAA is also investigating the crash.
