PORT AUSTIN, MI (WNEM) -

A holiday weekend kayak trip has ended in tragedy for an Ann Arbor family.

An officer with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said the family was kayaking from Eagle Bay to Turnip Rock off Huron County Sunday afternoon.

Just before 1 p.m. the family ran into trouble. Their kayak began taking on water and capsized.

Boaters were able to pull two children and their mother out of the choppy water, but the father, a 42-year-old Ann Arbor man went under. His body was recovered four hours later in 14 feet of water by Huron County Sheriff's divers.

The victim's name had not been released as of Monday afternoon.
