HURON COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A man was arrested after fleeing police following a traffic stop for speeding.

This happened on Saturday, July 3 just before 2 p.m. on M-25 near Dunn Road in Caseville Township.

Deputy Nathan Leppek with the Huron County Sheriff’s Department stopped the 2015 GMC Terrain on M-25 for speeding when the driver parked the SUV in the middle of the road and then fled on foot across a yard and into the woods.

Leppek chased after the 21-year-old man and caught him the woods.

Police then learned the SUV was stolen out of Utica and the driver had a suspended license.

Investigators also found the driver was a suspect in the theft of a car and boat in Sterling Heights the day before.

The man is being held in jail on pending charges.

Officials said Leppek was assisted by a vacationing military service member from Tennessee, who made sure the deputy was not harmed during the arrest of the driver.
