A tragic accident left one woman fighting for her life. Now her friends and family are reaching out to the community for help.

A Saginaw nurse was airlifted to a hospital last week after a medical condition caused her to crash her car.

"It's pretty heartbreaking news," said Amanda Keller, colleague of Megan Steele.

Steele and Keller are NICU nurses at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. Steele is at the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor fighting for her life.

Steele's mother said Steele was driving to her home in Mayville when she blacked out from a medical condition and crashed the vehicle. Steele is now in stable condition, but her mother said she still isn't awake.

Steele is the mother of four boys who are hoping their mom pulls through. The nurses she works with at Covenant are hoping for the same result.

"She just really made the unit. She's a bubbly, energetic person. So we really feel the loss of her presence right now. We have a lot of people praying," said Diana Crane, Steele's colleague.

Steele's friends are encouraging people to donate to a GoFundMe account to help her family with the medical expenses.

"With the four boys growing up and her not being able to be working right now and the expenses occurred for the long hospital stay, that's what the fund is for," said Stephanie Meyer, Steele's colleague.

Keller said it's hard knowing Steele and her family are struggling, but she believes she can overcome and get back to her life.

"I hope she's going to be able to walk down these halls again. I miss her smile right now and really looking forward to seeing that hopefully soon," Keller said.
