AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -

Authorities say a 10-year-old boy has been hospitalized after being attacked by a dog at a home in Washtenaw County.

Joyce Williams of Huron Valley Ambulance says the child was taken to a hospital in Ann Arbor following the Wednesday afternoon attack in Washtenaw County's Augusta Township.

The township's Fire Chief Dave Music says the boy had broken bones in his arm and wounds to his face. The Ann Arbor News reports the boy was able to go to a neighbor's home for help. An off-duty firefighter helped the boy before an ambulance arrived.

Melody Rittenhouse was on the phone when she found the boy at her home. She says what happened "is just a blur" and it was "just horrific."

State police are investigating.
