Girl, 8, with immune condition wins mountain bike

Posted: Updated:

An 8-year-old girl who helped others despite her own battles is now a Bike for Kids winner.

Jaylin Bradbury of Shepherd was diagnosed with alopecia last year after her hair started falling out in clumps. The condition causes Jaylin’s immune system to attack hair follicles and doctor’s don’t know what is causing the hair loss.

After the diagnoses, Jaylin decided to donate what hair she had left to a program that makes wigs for kids - since she herself now wears a wig.

Her mom, Tina, saw a Bikes for Kids flyer in her daughter’s Friday folder from school and decided to nominate Jaylin.

“She is the most caring, loving, kind-hearted little girl,” Tina wrote in her nomination. “She’s always wanting to help others in need and never expecting anything in return. I could not be more proud to call her my daughter.”

On Wednesday, Jaylin and her family went to Motorless Motion to pick up her new bike, helmet and lock.

Jaylin said she was very happy to win and was excited to start practicing on her new bike.

Barberi Law will give away six more mountain bikes this summer, through the middle of August.

Nominations of 150 words or less can be submitted online HERE.

You can also pick up a form at their office.
