PINCONNING, MI (WNEM) -

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down Friday near Pinconning, and although it didn’t cause widespread damage, a local man is still picking up the pieces.

“We were sittin’ here watching it. It came right down on us,” described Jerry Serafin as an EF-0 tornado ripped through his yard.

The NWS confirmed the tornado touched down around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, going roughly 70 miles per hour.

“You don't have time to think about it. When stuff starts happening you just move out of the way as best you can,” Serafin said.

Serafin looks across the damage to his property.

His fishing business and home were both damaged from the tornado. The shed roof peeled off, broken windows and tree limbs everywhere.

He says when they saw the formation, they hid in the fishing cooler.

“I figured this was the safest place in the barn we could hidden ourselves in the snow,” he said.

His house and business were the only spots hit by the tornado. It then quickly disappeared across the water.

Serafin said even though they’re waiting for the insurance assessment, the damage could be a lot worse. At least, they’re all safe.

“What are you going to do? I feel bad for people who lose their places. It can happen in an instant,” Serafin said.
