Citizens show support for local officers in wake of deadly Dallas attack

Posted: Updated:
MICHIGAN, (WNEM) -

After an attack on Dallas police that killed five officers and injured at least 11 others, citizens are showing support for law enforcement.

Last week Micah Johnson, a black Army veteran, fired on officers while hundreds of people gathered in downtown Dallas to protest recent fatal police involved shootings.

Over the weekend dozens of police departments posted photos and messages on social media showing the support those in the community were showing them following the deadly attack.

Midland Police Department posted to their Facebook page on Saturday thanking the community for their continued support.

In Tuscola County, police said a four-year-old and her mom stopped by with cookies and a card.

“We wanted you to know you are supported and we thank you for keeping us safe," the card read.

In Bay County, officers were greeted with hugs from citizens.

Overnight, rallies broke out across the nation in response to last week's police involved shootings.

Louisiana police arrested nearly 50 protesters during demonstrations in Baton Rouge. A peaceful protest in Tennessee brought traffic to a standstill as demonstrators blocked both directions on an interstate bridge.
