BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Viking fans rejoice, the world’s largest replica ship is still coming to Bay City, officials say.

There has been recent concern over the Norwegian Viking ship Draken Harald Harfagre canceling its appearance at the Tall Ship Celebration this weekend over an unexpected $400,000 waterway fee.

Event Coordinator Shirley Roberts with the Tall Ship Celebration told TV5 on Tuesday the ship will come to Bay City after all. She said the $400,000 quoted would have been fees due if the ship traveled the entire Great Lakes.

Roberts said the money has been allotted for the Viking ship to come as far as Bay City, but she’s not sure if the ship will sail beyond that point.

"There is not room in our budget to go further west into the Great Lakes, but we can not let the people in Bay City down. The Tall Ships Celebration in Bay City is just days away and the planning is in its final stages, it would be a great disappointment for us and more importantly to the people we already committed to," said Captain Bjorn Ahlander.

The Bay City Tall Ship Celebration runs July 14-17.

The Draken is estimated to arrive in Bay City about 9 p.m. It is running late because it responded to a distress call Wednesday night.
