FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

An alleged robbery suspect who led campus police on a foot chase is in custody.

The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety said officers were called around 1 p.m. Monday to the area of Second Street and Chavez Avenue for reports of a purse that was stolen.

The suspect was spotted near Wallenburg and Second Street shortly after the crime was committed, police said.

After a brief foot chase, the suspect was taken into custody by campus police near the footbridge between East Boulevard and James P. Cole Boulevard.

Police warn students to always walk with a friend when possible and know the locations of the Emergency Blue Phones on campus.
