Businesses expecting huge crowds for tall ship festival

The largest tall ship festival in North America is just days away and it's happening in Mid-Michigan.

The Bay City Tall Ship Celebration begins Thursday and businesses are getting ready for the festival. The businesses said they're expecting profits to soar during the celebration.

Aaron Musinski, chef at the Real Seafood Company, said he's expecting to see a lot of land lovers visit the restaurant. He's looking forward to whipping up plenty of tasty dishes during the four day celebration.

"We're expecting a huge number of people coming through the doors. Probably double our normal business," he said.

Farther down the Saginaw River, Hooters is preparing for a mad rush of spectators as the restaurant boasts one of the best viewing areas in the entire city.

"We've been getting calls talking about if we've got specials, if we're renting out our picnic tables, are we putting on any type of anything. People want to reserve like today for Thursday," said Tara Schreiber, manager at Hooters.

All the maritime enthusiasts will need to eat. Schreiber said she'll have all hands on deck to feed the hungry souls.

"We are bringing in people from four different stores actually to come help us staff. So we're expecting huge amounts of people," she said.

Meanwhile, Musinski recently moved back to Bay City after spending 15 years away from home. He said the Tall Ship Celebration is another reminder as to how quickly the city is growing.

"Last time I was here, none of this was here. And to come back and see all this growth and all this new development is actually great. You know it's my hometown, I'm going to be proud of it," he said.
