ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- A Philadelphia man has walked 600 miles to the University of Michigan to raise awareness and money for a foundation named for the late grandson of retired football coach Lloyd Carr.
Jim Burns was greeted Monday at Michigan Stadium, four days after arriving in Ann Arbor. He was given khaki pants worn and autographed by football coach Jim Harbaugh.
Burns hugged Tammi Carr, the mother of 5-year-old Chad Carr, who died from an unusual brain tumor in 2015. "Chad Tough" became a slogan and the name of a foundation.
The 49-year-old Burns says he started his trek on June 5 and walked to Ohio and then Michigan. He says he probably stepped into hundreds of holes but never twisted an ankle. He says, "Chad was taking care of me."
