People from all over come to see the Tall Ship Celebration in Bay City.

“We drove up from Dearborn, Michigan and got here just in time as the ships were starting to come through,” said one couple.

For some, waiting to see the ships come down the Saginaw River is not only a goal, but an all-day event.

“We’re retired, we’re happy, we’ve got plenty of time on our hands so we’re good,” they said.

For others, Tall Ships is an event for the family.

“Husbands and sisters-in-laws and daughters, got the whole crew down here,” said another woman.

For the regular visitors, seeing the ships carries a special feeling.

“It just makes me feel…glad,” a woman said.

Even with all the vessels lining the river, it still may not be the favorite attraction.

“Probably just the Pirates, the one dressed up as Johnny Depp every year, that’s probably my favorite,” said a woman visiting the festival.

People will have plenty of time to experience the thrill of boarding the historic replicas. The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Sunday.

Admission is $10 and boarding passes for ships are also $10.

The parks will open for casual viewing at 9 p.m. each night. The ships will set sail on Monday.

TV5 is a proud sponsor of the Tall Ship Celebration. We'll bring you continuing coverage on air, online and on your mobile device.
