Saginaw residents fed up with overgrown grass

Posted: Updated:

Imagine living next to a mess of grass so tall a person could get lost just walking in it.

Residents in the Saginaw area say they are fed up, and want to know what the city will do to help.

“It’s an eyesore. It’s got rodents and stuff all up in there, you know?” said Maurice Daily, a Saginaw resident.

For two years, neighbors on Hiland Street said they tried to fix the problem themselves.

“I even got my brother to come over here with his riding mower. He said he can’t get over in that,” Patsy Parks said.

The city said it was unaware of this specific problem, but even so, said it can’t mow every overgrown lot in the city due to a limited budget for grass cutting.

“We all are very good neighbors over here. We try to stick together but we can’t do anything if don’t nobody help us,” Parks said.

The city is offering to help with a small caveat. It will chop down any overgrown lot one time if called by a resident. It’s then up to neighbors to maintain it, something these neighbors said they’re willing to do.

“All we’re asking them to do is to come over, cut it down, and I guarantee you the neighbors will take care of it,” Parks said.
