FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

More than $4 million in funding will help Flint-area children and teens take advantage of year-round access to educational opportunities.

The grants were announced Thursday by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.

The funding supports academic, enrichment and youth employment programs this summer and will help sustain local afterschool programs in the coming school year. Grants include $3.1 million to support YouthQuest, a comprehensive afterschool program.

Each program also will boost efforts to help link children and families with resources and services amid Flint's crisis with lead-tainted water.
