Man stabbed during fight behind diner

CLARE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A man was stabbed and a woman injured during a fight behind a diner in Clare County. 

Police were called to S&R Diner in the City of Harrison around midnight on Thursday, July 14 for reports of a man chasing another man with a knife.

Officers found the two men fighting behind the diner when they arrived.

Investigators said 27-year-old Timothy Gross of Harrison was stabbed several times by a Shawn Steinkampf, 33, of Harrison, during the fight.

A woman, 26-year-old Samantha Straton of Harrison, was also attacked by Steinkampf, police said.

Officers treated Gross at the scene and he was later airlifted to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Steinkampf was treated for minor injuries and then arrested. He’s being held at the Clare County Jail.

He was charged with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic violence.
