Mother charged with child abuse in death of son

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Shocking allegations against a local mother who is now charged in the death of her child.

Prosecutors said 33-year-old Jamia Robinson abused her four-year-old son, leading to his death less than two months before his fifth birthday.

Police said the mother and child lived in the 2700 block of Mansfield in Flint.

Officers were called to Hurley Medical Center on Sunday, July 17 when the boy, Jordyn Mathena, arrived in critical condition.

Based on the child’s injuries, abuse was suspected. He died on July 18.

Prosecutors said Jordyn received severe burns, head trauma and a broken nose. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, but the results have not been released.

Prosecutors said Robinson head a bang, but left the boy in the tub and went to the store.

Robinson is charged with felony murder and first degree child abuse.
