SANFORD, MI (WNEM) -

A historic trip through Michigan is now complete for a Vietnam memorial wall.

The Moving Wall left Sanford after a weekend in Mid-Michigan where thousands came out to pay their respects for those who lost their lives in Vietnam.

“It was full of people so it’s had a good showing, really has,” Dennis Ostahowski said.

Ostahowski is a Vietnam veteran from Midland. He said finding the names of friends he served with was an emotional experience.

“There was about 20 of them there that got killed and it's hard to see them,” he said.

While many searched for names of loved ones and relatives, some families came out to help teach their kids about why it's important to honor and thank the members of our military.

“We wanted to be able to bring our kids out to see a piece of our nation’s history they are just starting to learn about and help them just to build respect for so many lives that have sacrificed,” said Andrew Scheller, who brought his family to see the wall.

Ostahowski said the wall is a powerful tribute that’s helping to make sure these American heroes are gone but not forgotten.

“I think it's great. I really do and it's something that's been needed for a lot of years and veterans really appreciate it,” Ostahowski said.

The wall’s next stop will be in Pennsylvania and will end its tour in November.
