BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

The Draken Harald Harfagre is heading on to Chicago!

The future destinations of the Viking sailing vessel were in question after officials found out they would be required to pay pilot fees for traveling through the Great Lakes.

They said the cost for pilotage, if the ship were to complete the Tall Ships Challenge through the Great Lakes, is well over $400,000.

They were able to make it to Bay City for the Tall Ship Celebration, but decided to stay in port for a few extra days to try and raise funds to continue.

Now they’ve announced they will be heading to Chicago, although they aren’t sure about the rest of the expedition.

Officials tell TV5 that the Draken left Bay City on Wednesday morning.
