Miss Michigan to compete against nation's best

Posted: Updated:
BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

There's a big month ahead for a Mid-Michigan teen who's already racked up some hardware for her on-stage talent.

Kendra Lodewyck is hitting the stage once again.

The Bay City native was crowned Miss Michigan's Outstanding Teen in 2016 and now she is heading off to compete in nationals for the Miss America Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant in Florida.

Lodewyck already has a plan if she wins.

“I will spend that whole year promoting my platform, which is the Children's Confidence Mission, because as Michigan's Outstanding Teen, it will be here but if I win the country's title I will be traveling all across America, heading state to state, getting involved in community service, volunteering,” Lodewyck said.

Lodewyck said too many kids her age do not feel good about themselves. She said she knows, because she used to suffer from that, too.

“I will be educating kids on confidence. It is a struggle in America today. So I feel that if I am able to improve their confidence right now in the youth, they can carry it on through their high school and college and life experience,” she said.

Lodewyck said she is grateful to make it this far, so she is hosting a sendoff party before she goes to say thank you to all of the people that have supported her in her journey.

You can come cheer her on at an event in Bay City Wednesday night. Lodewyck will perform some of her favorite songs on stage. It will be at the Diamond Banquet Center at 7 p.m.

She said the Miss Michigan organization spreads a great message to today’s youth.

“It is success, service, style and scholarship,” Lodewyck said.

The sendoff party is free and open to the public.

The final competition is August 6.
