MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) -

A 53-year-old suburban Detroit man has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail and spend two years on probation for fatally shooting a dog in his neighbor's yard.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports Keith D. Zbrudzewski of Warren was sentenced Wednesday in Macomb County Circuit Court for the May 8 shooting of "Coco," a miniature pinscher.

Zbrudzewski earlier pleaded guilty to animal torture or killing, punishable by up to four years in prison. Authorities say he had a pellet gun.

The dog was owned by Kayla Guy, who was visiting her mother. She told WJBK-TV that Zbrudzewski "took something that meant a lot" to the family.

Zbrudzewski also was ordered to pay $3,240 in restitution to Guy.
