GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A community is in shock after a Mid-Michigan businessman is accused of using social media to solicit sex from a young boy.

Terry Cadarette, 48, was charged with five counts of child sexual abuse for an incident in 2013.

Cadarette, a real estate pro, is accused of using the social networking app Grindr to engage in sexual relations with a 14-year-old boy at his home. The victim is now 17.

The prominent businessman was arrested on July 18 in Goodrich on suspicion of three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, using a computer to communicate with another to commit a crime, and approaching a child for immoral purposes.

“He abused his power and had this young man meet him for sex,” Sheriff Robert Pickell revealed at a press conference Thursday.

Pickell said the felony charges against Cadarette could land him in jail for at least 20 years.

“These are some serious offenses and I’m not sure there are more victims out there,” Pickell said.

Cadarette is currently out on bond.

Investigators are asking if you know of anyone who had a relationship with Cadarette, please call the department at 810-257-3422.
