FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver will be speaking at the 2016 Democratic National Convention Wednesday night in Philadelphia.

Mitch Rivard, who works for Hillary Clinton’s campaign, confirmed the news. He also said that Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and former Governor Jennifer Granholm have been invited.

Mayor Weaver plans to make the most of the opportunity to keep the City of Flint in the national spotlight. While progress is being made to help the city recover from the man-made water disaster, Flint still has a long way to go and should not be forgotten. The sad fact remains, residents still can’t drink water straight from the tap. This issue must be addressed to get the city back on track and to retain and attract more people and businesses.

- Kristin Moore, spokesperson for city of Flint

Weaver is set to take the stage around 6:30 p.m.

Moore said Weaver plans to speak about Clinton's commitment to the people and the city of Flint.
