MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

If you're looking for a furry friend, there's a big event going on next week in Mid-Michigan.

The fifth annual Rhoda's Free Feline Frenzy kicks off next Monday, July 25.  It's named in memory of a volunteer at the shelter who passed away in 2012.  Any cat older than six months is free, all cats under six months cost $25 bucks or you can adopt two for $40.

"As always all of our cats are fixed, tested, vaccinated so it's a fantastic deal,” Shelter Director Beth Wellman said.

The shelter has a wide variety of cats to choose from.

“Kitten season is not a myth; cats do breed from April through the fall so any shelters influx time is this time of year,” Wellman said.

If a dog is more your style, the shelter has a great deal going on called Big Jim's Bully Bonanza. It’s also named after a volunteer who passed away.

"Jim always rooted for the underdog. And the bully breeds, unfortunately in the animal world, are the underdog and they get under looked and are kind of a misunderstood breed. So, in honor of Jim we offer bully breeds for half off during this two-week time,” Wellman said.
