MARQUETTE, MI (AP) -

A judge has ordered a hunting ranch owner in the Upper Peninsula to destroy 10 pigs that are considered to be pests.

The Grand Rapids Press says Greg Johnson of Negaunee Township has until Oct. 1 to comply with an order this week by Marquette County Judge Thomas Solka.

Johnson's attorney, Joseph O'Leary, says they're disappointed. He says Johnson's pigs can be traced to domestic breeds.

The Department of Natural Resources designated Russian boars and other exotic swine as an invasive species in Michigan, saying they're escaping from hunting ranches and small farms and ravaging the environment. The state appeals court upheld the ban a year ago.

DNR spokesman Ed Golder says the department is pleased with the order against Johnson.
