SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Music echoed through downtown Saginaw at Friday Night Live's Country Night and a classic band made the noise.

Donna Hughes sat in the shade at Morley Plaza while listening to local bands perform in the heat. She said the high temperatures definitely seemed like it was a deterrent to some.

"I've never come to one where that many people are missing, that yard over there is usually cram jammed,” Hughes said.

A block over, people lined up outside of the First Merit Bank event park waiting for the Beach Boys to take stage.

"They've been around for many years; I think they're the greatest band in the world,” Eric Stimac said.

Jeff Lauer said he formulated an early plan to beat the steamy heat. He was like many who said they couldn’t miss this performance.

“That’s one of the nice reasons of being here early so we can get some of that pavilion shadow,” Lauer said.

Most people acknowledged the heat because it was hot, but said it couldn’t stop them.

"When you take your seat and the Beach Boys are coming on, you're going to wax up the surfboard and they're going to bring the waves to you and it's going to cool everybody off, you're in for a real treat, you know, the heat's not going to last too long, but the Beach Boys, they're going to make sure everyone stays cool with all those great hits,” Stimac said.
