PORT SANILAC, MI (WNEM) -

A man was arrested over the weekend after police say he crashed his pickup truck into an apartment building.

Officers were called just before 12:30 a.m. to Pope Apartment Complex in Port Sanilac on Sunday, July 24 for reports of a man who just ran his truck into an apartment building.

When deputies arrived, the 22-year-old man took off running. He was caught after a short foot pursuit, police said.

Investigators found the man was trying to fix some maintenance issues with his truck when he began driving recklessly in the parking lot of the complex.

The driver lost control and drove his pickup into one of the apartment buildings. Police said several residents were inside, but no one was injured.

The building sustained major damage.

The man was taken to the Sanilac County Jail on multiple driving offenses.

Police believe alcohol was a factor.
