MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

After announcing the cut of approximately 700 jobs in the Great Lakes Bay Region, a statewide job portal has been launched to help offset the layoffs from one of Mid-Michigan’s largest employers.

The Dow Chemical Company announced at the end of June they would be cutting approximately 2,500 positions globally as the company moves into full ownership of Dow Corning, Inc.

The online job portal launched on July 11 allows Michigan companies to post job openings on the portal and search for Dow and Dow Corning employees to fill them, according to the company.

The portal has about 450 open positions posted by more than 145 Michigan employers. Close to 300 of those jobs are with the State of Michigan. Laid-off employees are able to access the portal for free.

The portal is administered by Midland Tomorrow.

Laid-off employees also have another option to connect with potential employers at a virtual career fair on Wednesday, August 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The online event brings together Michigan employers and skilled workers from across the state and around the globe.  Registration information can be found at www.mitalent.org/virtualcareerfair.
