WESTLAND, MI (AP) -

Organizers of a Detroit-area attempt to break a Guinness World Records mark for topping dominoes say they've achieved their goal.

Lead builder Steve Price says in a statement Tuesday that a final count showed 76,017 were knocked down during Saturday's effort at Westland Shopping Center to create the largest domino circle field. The existing record of 54,321 was set in 2014 in Germany.

The record attempt awaits confirmation by Guinness. In all, Price says 242,518 dominoes were knocked down Saturday.

The project was called the "Zeal Credit Union Incredible Science Machine: World Edition," since it's backed by a credit union. Price last year led a team at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit in an attempt to build the world's largest chain reaction machine that fell short.
