FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

More help could be coming to the city of Flint to pay for a pipeline needed to test a new source of water.

The 5.5 mile test pipe would run next to the Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline.

It's required by federal regulators and its expected to cost over $7 million, but that bill could now be covered.

According to the Detroit News, the Department of Environmental Quality has found $4 million in grants for the project.

The Michigan Strategic Fund may loan Flint another $3 million.
