SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

It's been called one of the deadliest stretches of road in Saginaw County and some locals want to make it safer.

Gratiot Road, also known as M-46, has seen more than its fair share of accidents.

Dakota Hill, 18, was killed on the stretch when he ran a red light and hit a truck. Now his mother is joining forces with others in the area. They are petitioning for a chance.

Jeanie Hill spends much of her time visiting the memorial where her son died.

However, she's not the only one who thinks the intersection is dangerous.

Across the street inside Family Video, employees said they've seen too many accidents with their own eyes.

Darius Wass works at Family Video where a petition is being signed. The petition is to have a light installed for the left hand turn lane.

Although in Dakota Hill's case, investigators determined he was speeding. However, the driver that crashed into him was making a left hand turn at the intersection.

That day, Wass was a few cars behind Dakota Hill. He said he sees accidents there far too often.

There are about 500 signatures on the petition.
