SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Investigators say a driver that was texting caused an accident with a semi-truck.

It happened on July 28 at 8:45 p.m. at M-46 and M-53 in Sanilac County’s Lamotte Township.

The sheriff’s department reports that a 21-year-old man from Merrill was westbound on M-46 and failed to stop at the traffic light at M-53.

He then hit the side of a semi-truck, puncturing the fuel tank and causing about 100 gallons of fuel to spill on the road.

Investigators say the 21-year-old was texting at the time of the accident and ran the stoplight.

He was treated at the scene for injuries and ticketed.

The other driver wasn’t hurt.

Traffic was rerouted until the oil spill was cleaned-up.
